Frequently asked questions
Where is my data stored?
All your data is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server or cloud service. If you delete the app, your data will be permanently removed.
How do I back up my data?
Go to Settings and tap Export backup (JSON). This creates a JSON file containing all your children, activities, and settings. Save it somewhere safe — iCloud Drive, email it to yourself, or save to Files.
How do I restore a backup?
Go to Settings and tap Import backup (JSON). Select a previously exported LearnLog JSON file and your data will be restored.
How do I delete all my data?
Go to Settings and tap Clear all data. This permanently removes all children, activities, and settings from the app. This cannot be undone, so export a backup first if you want to keep a copy.
Can I use LearnLog for multiple children?
Yes. Add as many children as you need in Settings. When logging an activity, you can select one or more children. Insights and PDF reports can be filtered by child.
What are the activity categories?
LearnLog includes over 25 categories covering a wide range of learning styles:
- General: Cooking, Nature, Trips, Creative, Reading, Sports, Music, Science, Maths, Building, Life Skills, Conversations, Screen, Social, Free Play
- Charlotte Mason: Narration, Copywork, Picture Study, Scripture / Psalms, Recitation
- Older learners (Year 7+): Writing, Research, Languages, History, Exam Prep, Independent Study
Why don’t I see all categories?
Categories for older learners (Writing, Research, Languages, History, Exam Prep, Independent Study) only appear when you select a child in Year 7 or above. This keeps the category list clean and relevant for younger children.
How do I generate a PDF report?
Go to the Export tab, select a child and date range, then tap Generate PDF. The report includes your educational philosophy, a summary of activities with curriculum coverage, and is tailored to your jurisdiction (England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland).
Which jurisdictions are supported?
LearnLog supports England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. You can set your jurisdiction in Settings. This affects the disclaimer text included in PDF evidence reports.
Does LearnLog work offline?
Yes, completely. LearnLog does not require an internet connection for any of its features. Everything works offline.
